Overview

As part of our commitment to being a truly people-centered business, we provide all permanent team members with a free $10,000 Funeral Benefit.

You don't have to do anything! You are automatically covered from your first day of your employment and there is no charge to you.

We are providing this benefit as it reflects our people-centered culture and our commitment to providing practical support to our team members and their families in difficult times.

This is an emotional time for your family and other team members.

As below we can also support other team members from our counselling provider OCP.

(The Warehouse Group Funeral Plan is underwritten by Partners Life who handle claims quickly and efficiently, so the money can be passed on quickly to the family at this stressful time)


FAQ's


Who does the funeral benefit apply to?
In the event of death of a permanent team member the funeral benefit pays $10,000.


In the event of the death of a permanent team members's dependent child under the age of 18, the funeral benefit pays:
For children between the ages of 10 and 18 - $3,500.
For the children under the age of 10 - $2,000.


What is NOT covered under the Funeral Benefit?
Any terminal illness conditions which were known on the 1st November 2013. Otherwise all pre-existing conditions are covered.
A death rules as a suicide during the first 13 months of the team member being covered under the Funeral Benefit. After 13 months the cover applies in all circumstances.
A team member's spouse or partner is not covered. However, if the team member is interested in this, they can contact Partners Life to organise this.


What if a team member is diagnosed with a terminal illness after 1st November 2013?
The benefit can be paid early upon diagnosis of a terminal illness. While this is not something any of us want to think about, having access to these funds at this time helps enable the planning for a funeral to occur earlier with less financial stress.


What should a Manager do when they hear about a terminal diagnosis?
In the event of a diagnosis of a terminal illness you should make sure the team member knows about the Funeral Benefit and the option for early payment.
You should notify your Regional Manager and contact AskPS Department if further information is required.
Print and fill out the required 'Funeral Benefit Notification Form'.
Scan and e-mail the Notification Form and all required relevant supporting documentation to  Ask People Support .

What about the rest of the Team?
Some team members, and perhaps yourself will be shaken and upset especially if the death is unexpected. You can can call OCP for a counselor to come and spend a day in the store and talk to the team if they want to. However, before you do this, assess the likely usage. It may be better to let the team now that OCP is available and remind them of the contact phone number.


Do we have to wait for the insurers to pay us before we pay the family?
No, TWG will pay as soon as all the Notification Form and required documentation is received and checked.


What is the next of kin or that person is so upset they cannot talk to anyone or cope with the details?
We have in the past made arrangements to pay the funeral home directly and we can be flexible on this.


What is the team member already has funeral insurance?
This does not make a difference, they will still receive the Funeral Benefit from The Warehouse Group.
